2024 Braidwood Riesling

A$35.00

Our single vineyard Braidwood Riesling is hand picked from the Sapling Yard vineyard 25km north of Braidwood, opposite the Buddawang Range. The climate is cooler than Canberra and the soils consist of decomposed granite over a deep layer of silty clay allowing the vines to access enough nutrients to develop complex aromatic wines.

This Riesling is dry in style, with the residual sugar balancing the naturally high acidity. A delicate fragrant nose of white jasmine and crushed kaffir lime leaves, leading into a refined and elevated palate, finishing with a twist of lemon sorbet.

Vintage: 2024

Region: Braidwood

Vineyard: Charleys Forest

Variety: 100% Riesling

Alcohol: 11%

Production: 40 dozen

Vinification: The grapes were whole bunched pressed (no hard pressings) to tank. The ferment was long and cool using a specially selected yeast originally from Germany. This wine was bottled in July.

What The Reviewers Are Saying

Winelines (Gilbert Labour) Silver

“This Sapling Yard Riesling from the elevated cool-climate precinct of Braidwood (NSW) ticks all the attributes expected of a medal-worthy young, off-dry style varietal. The initial aromas and flavours strongly channel grapefruit and jasmine blossoms. The palate grip is subtle yet persistent and straddles the line between the residual sugar (11% Alc) and the natural high acid components. The mid-palate shows finesse, elegance and carries lingering wafts of lemon sherbet. It's a vibrant young cool-climate Riesling full of promise and one that will reward 3 - 5 years of cellar sleep.... or enjoyed now in its youthful exuberance, especially with freshly shucked oysters & Asian-style salads.

This Sapling Yard Braidwood Riesling 2024 gives off some Germanic vibes too, with a contrast between grapefruit and white peppery citrus thrusts contrasted by just enough sweetness to round out the sharp edges. You’d definitely call this a light and taut style, but the impressive length and sparkling freshness makes for quite an impressive drink, and not hard or aggressively acidic either, Refreshment levels high!
