2023 Lake George Riesling

A$32.00

This Lake George Riesling is solely from the White Rocks Block and is a true expression of a classic cool climate Riesling. The vineyard sits on the shores of the ancient Lake George with a mixture of sand and pebbles that have been washed over the ages. Behind the vineyard lies the Cullerin Range washing granite down its slopes over millions of years. This unique soil profile allows the deep rooted vines to grow without irrigation

Our Lake George Riesling is bone dry with lifted notes of lime peel, citrus and orange blossom. Zesty acidity makes this wine a perfect match with fresh oysters or Asan inspired seafood.

Outside of the Shiraz Viognier, this Sapling Yard Lake George Riesling 2022 is my favourite release from Canberra newcomer Sapling Yard, and it captures the Canberra Riesling style (that I love) so well.

Sourced from the Lake George Vineyard, which is, you guessed it, on the sides of the extremely odd (and currently full) Lake George. This Riesling looks extremely youthful, too – an ultra-fresh, water-clear greenish thing with that smells of lime juice with a little jasmine, leading to a tight, mouthwatering and wonderfully intense palate. It’s a little on the green and crunchy side of the fruit fence (which might be divisive), but not unripe – just lovely freshness topped off with chalky, lightly lip-tingling acidity. Tasty.
— Andrew Graham - Oz Wine Review
This graceful yet grippy Riesling made from grapes hand-picked from the Lake George vineyards and delicately handled, displays traits reminiscent of some Rieslings from Alsace & Germany regions.
It opens up with a panoply of aromas & flavours reflective of musk, jasmine flowers with a supportive subtle yet steely grip of cool-climate natural acids in the lime / lemon range.
There is a lurking backbone of minerality, talc and a hint of guava.
At 11% Alc, it is refreshing and easily quaffable (as was our bottle).
It would also be a great match to Asian-style dishes.

Lifted notes of lime cordial, sage and orange blossom emerge on the nose. A fine and cleansing line of acidity injects tension. It’s a pretty and finer style with great poise
