2022 Gamay

A$32.00

This new wine has been a few years in the making, with our Braidwood vineyard finally producing a great crop in 2022, and is one of Carla's favourite grape varieties and wine. Elegant, light, juicy and fresh, this is a perfect food friendly wine, exhibiting bright red fruit characters, very little tannin, and some great length.

Food matches: game, pate, all of the cheese and charcuterie boards, and probably a little more duck confit.

Vintage: 2022

Region: Braidwood, Tumbarumba

Vineyards: Charley’s Forest (Braidwood); Moppity (Tumbarumba)

Varieties: Gamay 100%

Alcohol: 12.8%

Production: 165 dozen

Vinification: The Tumbarumba fruit was machine harvested giving mostly whole berries and some stalks, with the Charleys Forest fruit all hand picked.

The hand picked grapes were put through carbonic maceration until near the end of fermentation, then crushed and pressed to finish ferment in barrel.

The machine harvested grapes were evened out in 4 x 780 litre picking bins for fermentation, with one bin using wild yeast and the remaining bins using 3 different yeasts. Once fermentation had started it was plunged 3 times a day until near the end of ferment when it was pressed and racked to hogsheads (French barrels) - 1 new the rest 2, 3, 4 years old. In barrel for 10 months before being bottled, unfiltered on the 18th January.

What the Reviewers are saying

Fresh style, almost like a big rosé in a way. Strawberry, raspberry, a little game meat and juniper berry, light in body, a feathering of tannin, and a cranberry and redcurrant finish of solid length. Drinks well. Very tasty.
